The start date for the second surveillance audit of the Namibian hake trawl and longline fishery, has been announced.
The Marine Stewardship Council has informed the Namibian demersal hake trawl and longline fishery that its second surveillance audit will start on 23 January 2023.
The audit, which will be conducted by a team of specialists from Control Union (UK) Limited on behalf of the MSC, has been delayed almost six months.
They will be assessing amongst other things, any changes to the fishery, its management and scientific base of information, and review progress against the conditions associated with the fishery.
The hake stock biomass is showing a healthy 2.5 million tonnes, up 22%. on the previous year. The hake TAC is set at 154000 tonnes for the 2022/2023 fishing season.
