Seafood importer, packer and distributor, Atlantis Food Holdings, is to acquire Snoek Wholesalers. The Competition Commission South Africa has given the nod to the deal, with conditions.

Atlantis Food Holdings is controlled by Cenon Holdings (Pty) Limited and Cenon is controlled by Lonrho Africa Holdings Limited which in turn is controled by Lonrho Holdings Limited. These companies make up the “Atlantis Group” which is based in Atlantis, Cape Town.

Snoek Wholesalers has been acquired from the Bernzive Trust and the deal includes a processing facility property and shop in Philippi, Cape Town. The company supplies a variety of frozen fish, shellfish and molluscs under the Ocean Catch seafood and Atlantic Brands. It also has a cold storage facility.

The conditions imposed on the two organisations by the Competition Commission include a three year moratorium on merger specific retrenchments. The Atlantis Group must also continue to make contributions to skills, supplier, enterprise, and socio-economic development.
